Tijdens BredaPhoto is de buitententoonstelling Welkom in Breda gratis te bezoeken in de Speelhuislaan. De foto's en bijbehorende podcasts vertellen het verhaal van de ontwikkeling van Breda als een gastvrije en diverse stad.
Breda is al eeuwenlang een gastvrije stad. Ook de nieuwkomers in de afgelopen 60 jaar krijgen meestal een hartelijk welkom. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog ervaren Poolse oud-strijders dat. In het decennium daarna krijgt de stad een Molukse wijk. Op initiatief van het bloeiende Bredase bedrijfsleven komen in de jaren 60 onder meer Spanjaarden, Marokkanen, Italianen en Turken naar Breda. Oorlogen en natuurrampen brengen nieuwkomers uit alle windhoeken naar de Parel van het Zuiden. Zo wordt Breda steeds diverser, met bijbehorende eet-, muziek- en feestcultuur.

De buitententoonstelling Welkom in Breda is samengesteld uit de collecties van Stadsarchief Breda en Stedelijk Museum Breda. WELCOME TO BREDA
60 years of newcomers
Breda has been a hospitable city for centuries. During the past 60 years newcomers have usually been warmly welcomed. After World War II, Polish ex-combatants experience this hosptality first-hand. In the following decade, a Moluccan neighbourhood is founded in the city. Initiated by Breda’s flourishing business community, Spanish, Moroccan, Italian, Turkish, and other people move to Breda in the 1960s. Wars and natural disasters bring newcomers from all over the world to the ‘Pearl of the South’. Breda becomes increasingly culturally diverse, with the introduction new food, music and celebrations. This collection of photos and accompanying podcasts tell that story.
The exhibition Welcome to Breda consists of items from the collections of the Breda City Archives and the Stedelijk Museum Breda.
